2023 Basic Skill Series by Pacific NW Interclub
We all know that a lot of clubs got hit because of Covid. We also know that USFS tries to encourage us to find ways to keep skaters always wanting more. PNIC noticed that we have Excel Series, National Solo Dance Series, and National Qualifying Series but what about the Basic Skills? We have to start them off with excitement. What does it feel like for a Championship Round and Title? What better way than for PNIC to start a Basic Skills Series.
This will be our 2nd year. We would love in the future to have it open to the whole Northwest but this year again, it will only be for PNIC Clubs or Rinks doing business with PNIC as they await their club approval from USFS.

To Register Skater for Series: (Click here) Skater needs to be signed up before first competition they compete in. This is free.
We need all PNIC CLUBS that are having a competition during this time frame to click on this questionnaire. (Click here)
MISSION STATEMENT: To provide an opportunity for Basic Skill skaters to develop their skating skills in a fun, competitive environment. We want to promote goal setting and training achievements.
SERIES INFO: Skaters in clubs that are part of the PNIC family will need to register at www.pacificnwinterclub.com to sign up for the series. Skaters and Clubs will earn points depending on placements at these competitions. This series is for Pacific Northwest Interclub (PNIC) Members and associated rink LTS programs that are affiliated with PNIC (Example- Seattle Skating Club & Lynnwood Skating School, or a new rink with skating school and awaiting USFS membership). Skaters will earn points to be invited to PNIC Series Championship at PNIC Championships Competition to be held
Sept. 22-24, 2023.
Trophies will be awarded at the conclusion of the PNIC Championships. This will include a Club/ Skating School Team Trophy for – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The Club with the most points scored throughout the entire series (competitions must be signed up with PNIC as part of the series) by skaters representing that club/skating school (points for clubs and skating schools located at the same rink will be added together to enhance and create more of a “team” concept). This year’s series will include competitions at PNIC Clubs from Oct 1, 2022- Aug 20, 2023. Invitations to our Championship round will go out by Aug 23, 2023.
Free Skate Program Only - Skaters must compete in a minimum of 2 competitions before the Aug 20, 2023, cutoff date but are allowed to do more. PNIC will only count the two top scores for each skater. Both youth and adults may accumulate points. The system for scoring points for the trophies will be as follows: 1st place 6 points, 2nd place 5 points, 3rd place 4 points, 4th place 3 points, 5th place 2 points, and 6th place 1 point.
If there is only one skater in an event, the skater will have the choice to skate alone OR move up a level to compete against other skaters. In this case, those skaters will be allowed to move back to their original level to compete at the next competition. All points follow the skater throughout the series.
If an event has 2-6 skaters, the points will be awarded as if there were six skaters in the group. If there is only one skater in the group, that skater will be awarded three points. In case of a tie before PNIC Championship, we will look at the skaters overall scores at each competition they went to and see who was higher total.
The last day to accumulate points will be Aug 20, 2023. An email blast will be sent out to the top 12 skaters in each level for their invite to PNIC Championships. 2023 PNIC will try to have all Championship Rounds on Sunday if schedule allows. There will not be other Basic Skill events at PNIC this year other than the Championship Rounds. Trophies will be awarded to the top 1st, 2nd, 3rd for each level and skaters will hold that title for the year.
Rules and Format: Series Info should be added to Club’s Competition Announcement and skaters need to apply to be part of PNIC Basic Skill Series @ (www.pacificnwinterclub.com). PNIC Basic Skills Series is sponsored by PNIC and can only be part of sanctioned competitions of US Figure Skating. Competition Series info will be available at all participating ice rinks or club or on our website (www.pacificnwintwerclub.com). Each competition will have its own entry forms and specific rules so please make sure to read the entire announcement for each competition. If skaters do not sign up online for free on our PNIC website, they will not be tracked!!
ELIGIBILITY RULES FOR PARTICIPANTS: The competition is open to ALL skaters who are current eligible (ER 1.00) members of either the Learn to Skate USA Program and/or are full members of U.S. Figure Skating that are members of Pacific NW Interclub. All Snowplow Sam 1-4, Basic 1- 6, FS 1-6 and Adult 1-6 skaters are eligible to skate at highest level passed OR one level higher BUT not both levels in the same event during the same competition and NO official U.S. Figure Skating tests may have been passed including MIF or individual dances. All Pre-Free Skate through Free Skate 6 skaters are eligible to skate at highest level passed OR one level higher BUT not both levels in the same event during the same competition. It is very important to the success of the series that skaters are placed in the correct divisions. If, for whatever reason, the local organizing committee and/or their Chief Referee discover that a skater has been placed in a category that is below their class level, the chair and referee will have the option to move the skater to the proper division, even if this must be done the day of the competition. This will ensure that every event is as fair as possible to the competitors. Depending on size of each level, it may be split by age.
All skaters participating in the series must register on PNIC website with their name, age, skating level, email address, club/skating school name, primary coach so that PNIC can track their competition participation and have the information to send the final Series Championship invite. No series fee will be charged, only competition fees for participation in any competition throughout the series and the Finale. You will Compete at the last level tracked if invited to Championship Rounds.
